Sudanese Minister of Trade: Establishing a gold refinery in Qatar to facilitate its re-export

The Sudanese Minister of Trade and Supply, Al-Fateh Abdullah Youssef, said on Wednesday that there is a promising market for Sudanese gold. What matters is that a gold refinery that partners with Qatari businesses in Doha will export it, which will facilitate its re-export to other markets.

Consider Abdel Youssef, in working to contribute to global business (AWP): “We targeted Qatar as another market for (Sudanese) gold in the next stage, so that we can clearly participate in promising roles in light of the consensuses and protocols,” noting that “gold production ( In (Sudan) they are increasing and exporters need markets other than the orientation.”

The Sudanese News Agency announced the signing of an agreement between Sudan and Qatar to establish a gold refinery in Doha, in cooperation with Qatari businessmen, in order to process Sudan’s exports of the yellow metal. The agency reported that this came during Minister Abdullah Youssef’s meeting with the Qatari Minister of Trade and Industry, Mohammed Hamad bin Qassim Al Thani, on the sidelines of the meetings of the third edition of the Arab Economic and Cooperation Forum with the countries of Asia and Azerbaijan in Doha.

Regarding the establishment of gold refineries in Sudan, the minister said: “We are heading towards the path of establishing factories in Sudan, but we need partnerships, and in our situation we need very clear, smart partnerships in the next stage, so that we have diversity and renewal in the markets.”

He pointed out that the establishment of the gold refinery in Doha “will lead to facilitation for the Sudanese merchant at the export level. People were heading to work in the Emirates, and now we are opening a second market in gold on the basis that the merchants will transfer it to other countries after it is liquidated.”

"Other exploration contracts"

Regarding the refinery’s production, the Sudanese Minister of Trade and Supply explained that the factory aims to produce a huge quantity, as production from domestic (traditional) mining in Sudan is about 80 to 85 tons per year, while investment production is approximately 200 to 250 tons per year.

He said that all the gold produced in Sudan is exported directly, due to the lack of refinery laboratories in the country, noting that the laboratories in Qatar are advanced.

Regarding expanding the scope of cooperation with Doha, Youssef pointed out that Qatar is already investing in Sudan in several agricultural and industrial fields, and he continued: “In the next stage, we aim to sign cooperation protocols, because we will need reconstruction after the war, and reconstruction requires industries and investment. Therefore, we aim Friendly countries and promising countries to participate in reconstruction and industry in the next stage.”

He added that it is expected to sign other contracts related to exploration, extraction, and the rest of the gold production process, saying: “We allowed countries to invest in the gold production process, and they can invest in several areas after the end of the war, and even now, because there are safe areas far from conflict.”

Regarding Sudan’s readiness to receive new investments in light of the current turmoil in the country, the minister pointed out that investment in gold takes place in the region of northern Sudan where there are no conflicts or wars. Therefore, according to him, “producing and investing in gold there will be very easy without any problems or tensions.” ".
